UPDATE

Dandelion (Dandy) is doing very well overall.  She’s definitely settled into the house and slowly coming out of her shell. Dandy has such a sweet and happy disposition, and it breaks my heart to know she’s had a difficult past or remotely manage life as a stray, because she hasn’t left my side since she arrived.  Until she gains confidence, she isn’t happy when I am not in her sight and may whine until I reappear

She and Fitz (my dog) get along well, too!  Fitz isn’t super thrilled with her presence, and he gets a little jealous when she snuggles with his mom – but he mostly sulks from afar while Dandy is blissfully unaware.  Although Fitz has attempted to play with Dandy, but she didn’t appear to know how to engage. For now, that’s a positive since she needs to remain calm during HW treatment. There was only one quick argument between them while I was making their dinner- easy solution to keep them separated while I prepare their food.

I doubt Dandy has had much guidance learning commands or listening to her leader.  Fortunately, she is picking things up well.  She’s figured out sit, and we’re working on go to bed, wait, off, down, and not to be mouthy.   She gets a little excited and forgets herself the minute she gets out of her crate, but she quickly settles down and remains calm. I’ve taken some steps to try to help her to like her crate, but it’s a work in progress. We’re trying to work on sit before she is allowed out – but I’m constantly weighing the pros and cons of her learning manners and heart damage. She’s still taking prednisone, so she’s had a few accidents in the house, and we continue to eliminate any accidents. As a great plus, she did scratch on the door the other night to go out, so we are definitely making strides.

She had some visitors last night – my 9-year-old niece and 12-year old-nephew.  She adored the kids and was very polite to sit for pets once she settled down.  I was glad to see how well she did.  We’ve had a couple visitors, and she’s genuinely never met a stranger and responds so well to people.  Dandy truly is a sweet angel, who doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.  I love her to pieces!  (Fitz not so much)
