Updates

Jake is an absolute lab…..loves to swim and his nose directs him everywhere.  He is such a smart boy who just wants to have a companion to snuggle and play with him.  He enjoys walks, retrieving balls and anything that involves water.  If you turn on the hose, he is ready to play.  Jake loves to retrieve balls in the pool and has no problem jumping off the  edge but in the most ungraceful manner.  Absolutely no fears!

Even though Jake’s nose guides him, he has not tried to counter surf yet.  He aims to please his companion and be by their side.  Often times, I just drop his leash in the yard and he follows me or remembers his way back to the door.   Did I say, Jake is a very smart boy!?!?  He knows sit, paw, stay and come.  He is the absolute best boy in the crate.  Due to his nose and love of food, we will put him in his crate during dinner time and he will just lay in his crate and not make a sound even with our two dogs outside the crate.  Jake knows how to do stairs and has good house manners as long as nothing is laying on the floor that can be chewed.  He barks very little unless he wants something such as attention or water.

Jake is respectful of our two dogs and respects their boundaries including during dinner time.  He loves to play tug-of war and being chased. Jake is a “social butterfly” showing affection to all.  No fear of dogs nor of people. He will be a great addition to families and will give you his heart, licks and tail wags morning to night.

Jake is happy go lucky lab. He’s ready to get up and go or content to relax with a chew toy next to his people. He jumps into the car with ease and is a relaxed passenger. Jake’s expressive tail wag and smile will brighten your day. Jake knows how to have fun. He plays well with other dogs; shares balls, bones, and ropes without any guarding; and is comfortable in his space. Today he has shown infinite patience and gentleness with an exuberant puppy who decided Jake was her new BFF!
Jake is observant, smart, and eager to please. Once he realized that “sit” was a winning move, he has offered sits without my asking. He sits and grins, as if intuiting that he’s made a good decision, and then soaks up love and ear scratches. He also looks at my hands to see if a tasty morsel will be forth coming. Clearly he’s had a positive experience with training.
Jake loves playing fetch, chewing on bones, and getting food rewards for good behavior, but he really loves water! He was living his best life playing in the hose this afternoon, chomping at the water as it squirted out, dancing in the spray mist, and a romping through a small plastic pool. He has a gentle mouth when taking treats and had no problems taking treats side by side with another dog.
He was eager to go for walks and did really well walking on the leash. I think with some refresher training, he will be an awesome walking or running companion.
Jake has done great in the crate. He enters without protest and rests comfortably and quietly on his bed either sleeping or playing with toys. So far he’s gravitated to balls, ropes, and bones. He has played with his dog bed, but he has not chewed on it.
Jake has had some obedience training. He’s got a solid “sit”, and seems familiar with “wait” and “leave it”. He has not made any attempt to get up on furniture but I’ve seen his doggy brain thinking about counter surfing.
He’s been a great house guest and will be a lovable, devoted family member in his new forever home.
