Katey- ADOPTED

When we heard 7-year-old Katey’s story, we knew we had to help.  Rather than rewrite everything, we will share what we learned from her loving and dedicated, temporary foster mom.

I first met Katey at a local shelter where I was doing some volunteer work. I have a soft spot for yellow labs so I was drawn to her from the get-go. The shelter informed me that she was AKC registered, was heartworm positive and had a limp. The shelter drew the conclusion that she was being used exclusively as a breeding dog and had become unfit for another  pregnancy, hence she was turned over to Animal Control. She was skinny with diminished muscle mass and scared from being relagated to being caged all the time. Unfortunately,  Katey had run out of time at the shelter.

I agreed to take Katey home, give her some TLC, and see if she might recover enough to become adoptable. Sadly,  I am no longer able to be home and I must give up fostering. I am reaching out to rescues to possibly take Katey. I would love to see her be acclimated to living indoors with a family and to find a special family to call her own.

She is now heartworm negative and healthy. Now that she has had proper nutrition, exercise and spayed, the limp is hardly noticeable. She runs, jumps and plays with no issues. Katie is 7 years old, spayed, current on all vaccinations, HW- and on heartworm/flea-tick prevention. The shelter also gave me her AKC registration papers.

I do not believe it fair to continue to keep her when her only interaction with humans will now be the person I pay to come by and feed/water her while I am away. She absolutely loves to be with people. She has been good with the various foster dogs I’ve had, she’s good with my cats, and she has loved every human she has met.

We don’t think we need to add anything more regarding her background, but we do believe she is a very wonderful and special girl who needs continuity and love every single day.  CLR is committed to making sure that becomes the rest of her story.
