FOSTER UPDATE

Wilbur is a sweet little guy with the cutest blocky head. He loves to zoom around our yard with our dog playing keep away with a toy or stick. He’s fast!

He’s active and loves adventures. We took him to the Little Miami and he had a lot of fun splashing in the shallows and chasing after a ball. He needs a little more leash training, but will be a great trail dog in no time.

Wilbur is a big chewer. So far his favorite chews are elk antlers, durable stuffies and sticks.

He’s been doing amazing in his crate at night. He likes to fall asleep to relaxing dog music on Spotify. We’ve been leaving him gated in our family room when we have to leave during the day. He whines a bit but eventually settles down and naps.

Wilbur would benefit from more socialization to people, places and things. He’s curious, so he just needs someone he trusts to build up his confidence.

He is super smart and has learned the basics; Sit, Down and Wait. This next week we’re going to focus on recall and loose leash training. We’re also going to work on building up his confidence when meeting new people. As a fun bonus, I’m going to start the process of introducing him to a kayak just in case he’s still with us when we start taking the kayaks out.

FOSTER UPDATE

Wilbur is so cute! Our first night with Wilbur went well. He was a little standoffish with us at first, but when he met our dog his whole demeanor changed. After they were introduced he was all tail wags.

He’s cautiously interested in our cats. I’m pretty sure he wishes they would play with him, but that’s a hard pass from them.

I learned that he will work for his kibble, so we started working on “Sit” last night. This morning he did his first sit without being coaxed. We also started working on “Off” out of necessity because he does like to jump on people.

I was able to get him in his crate, but he whined quite a bit. I let him sleep in the family room instead and he slept through the night. We already started crate training this morning by having him eat breakfast in his crate with the door open. Crate training will be one of my training priorities this next week.

I also want to get him comfortable spending time alone. He whines anytime we are separated from him. For that, we’ll start short out-of-sight exercises, and just being causal about coming and going.
