Meet Blinky! She is a 2 year old, 70lb white lab that was surrendered to a shelter after the owner no longer had time for her. Blinky lost her eye after an injury and it unfortunately could not be saved. We believe that she is perfectly imperfect! This one-eyed wonder with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging!
Personality: Blinky is a playful, happy pup with a big love for life, and an even bigger love for her stuffed animals. She enjoys games of fetch and tug-of-war, then happily crashes for a nap after playtime. She’s also a total water enthusiast and will jump at any chance to splash and swim. With her joyful spirit and sweet nature, she’s sure to bring a smile to your face every single day.
Training: Blinky is fully potty trained. She is also crate trained and settles in very quickly with a toy and treat. She’s still getting used to walks, there’s a little bit of pulling, but nothing some practice and the right gear can’t help! Blinky spent a week in training and learned the basics such as sit, stay, heel and come. She’s also improving each day with placing in her bed.
Due to Blinky’s limited vision, she can be startled when there’s a lot of movement approaching from the side. For her comfort and safety, she will need to be the only dog in the home where she can soak up all the love and attention. For the same reason, we also recommend a home with no children under 8.
Updates
We’ve had Blinky in our home for a week now, and wow—this girl is SMART and a typical Lab. That tail never stops wagging, and neither do the kisses or those classic Lab “leans” right into your lap. She has great energy—definitely on the higher side—so she’ll thrive with a confident leader who will keep her training consistent to help her build confidence and maintain healthy boundaries.
Blinky is doing fantastic with her e-collar training and already knows off, come, sit, place, heel, and down. She’s learning to hold those commands longer, and we’re working on keeping her focused during distractions. With her energy and love of the outdoors, she’d make an amazing running or hiking partner. And if you’re up for a good game of fetch, she’s your girl—she’ll chase the ball for as long as you’ll throw it and then drop it politely at your feet for another round.
Because she lost vision in one eye, Blinky can be startled if someone approaches from her blind side. For this reason, we recommend no children under 8. With proper introductions and supervision, she’d likely do well even with younger kids because she truly loves people. She just needs a little extra time and patience when meeting new folks or other dogs.
At home, she’s a dream—she sleeps quietly in her crate all night and during errands, and with the right balance of exercise and structure, she settles nicely throughout the day. She still has some puppy-like behaviors (like pulling shoes or clothes out of closets), but she hasn’t chewed anything that isn’t hers.
Blinky is a beautiful girl with a simple heart—she just wants to please you, be your adventure buddy, and love you endlessly. Could you be the active, confident leader this sweet girl needs?
