Charlie Bear is a 1 year old, 66 lb. dog that was found stray.  He arrived very scared and timid, but he has absolutely come alive while in foster care.  He is the absolute sweetest boy with the best temperament.   He is playful and affectionate with both humans and other dogs.  He loves to give kisses!  He also loves to play with toys, bones, and balls – he is just the cutest!  He knows some basic commands and is doing well with house and crate training.

Charlie Bear has been on a medical journey.  He arrived to CLR a few weeks ago and was placed on a medical hold. He has struggled to hold weight (losing 10+lbs in a few weeks). Our vet team administered a number of different tests to help find the root cause. He was hospitalized and intensive care, and we were able to determine that it was an infection in his liver. After a few days of treatment, he immediately started to bounce back!  He is now eating without issue and back on the road to recovery!  Yay, Charlie!

FOSTER UPDATE

Charlie is settling in, and he is a very sweet boy! He is still very much transitioning. He is a little fearful of men and is still trying to figure out how to play with toys. He isn’t interested in food or treats right now, but that is very common on the first few days. He does love bones so that’s a good start!!! Our dog is also trying to show him the ropes, and we know that he will benefit from time with his foster brother.

Charlie is curious but always cautious. He is a total sweetheart, and he is working on being his true doggie self. He doesn’t seem to know any commands yet, but we will start on that once he’s settled. He has generally good manners. He doesn’t jump up or bark (unless he is trying to tempt Blue to play). The dogs are speaking different play languages now, but they do know how to snuggle! We can’t wait to see this boy blossom while in our care! More updates to come!”

Charlie is settling in and doing well! He has relaxed enough to figure out toys and he and Blue enjoy rope tugging and wrestling. He is an exuberant player, but he reads cues very well and adjusts his energy level to match. Bones are still his favorite.

Charlie is still very cautious of new people he encounters on walks.  He just requires a little ‘warm up” time with strangers.  He is fully comfortable with all of our family members.  He is just the sweetest! We have not seen even the slightest bit of aggression or resource guarding. He thinks he is a lap dog and if you sit on the floor, he climbs on for a hug. Love to snuggle? Charlie is happy to oblige and sinks right in.He doesn’t like dog beds, seems to prefer sleeping on a soft doormat on the floor. Sleeps quietly on the floor in our bedroom all night without incident.  He roams freely around our house during the day without getting into anything or stealing socks, shoes, etc. He is not at all destructive at all.  He does get a little bit anxious when he is left along, so we are working on conditioned relaxation whenever someone leaves.  We just got the crate and set it up in our family room and started feeding him meals in it.  We will continue with crate training and report back on his progress.

He loves a good walk to the park and is interested in every dog he sees. In the city there are a lot of loud noises, strangers, etc and I don’t feel it’s his optimal environment—he gets too nervous.  He would likely do best with a yard and a quieter neighborhood (especially while he is in his transition period).

He has learned about treats and takes them so gently that I wouldn’t hesitate to let children hand them to him. He’s decent on leash and is working on his sit command. He comes when called by name.

All in all, Charlie Bear has an excellent disposition and I think all he really wants to do is be with his people. He seems to attach pretty easily once comfortable and would be a great companion or family dog.

Charlie Bear has been doing amazing!   After a brief medical scare, he is well on the road to recovery!  He is eating well and back to his normal, happy self!  He is so playful and happy….he is such a cuddle monster!  It has been amazing to watch his transformation over the past few weeks.   He is thriving!

Charlie Bear is ready to find his forever family!
