Meet Keely! She is a 1 year old, 68lb black lab mix that was found stray in Mississippi.
Personality: Keely is a fun-loving, happy pup who has settled in quickly and is already showing her sweet and goofy side. She’s still in her puppy phase—full of energy, playful antics, and a knack for keeping life exciting. She’s affectionate, joyful, and loves to be part of the action.
Because of her play style, Keely would do best in a home with older kids. She shouldn’t live with cats or very small dogs, as she’s too tempted to chase little animals. With her fun spirit and love of people, she’ll thrive in an active household that keeps her engaged and moving.
Training: Keely may be young, but she’s already got a strong foundation to build on. She slept through the night in her crate without a fuss, is fully house-trained, and takes treats gently. She has no signs of resource guarding and responds well to correction. Right now, she doesn’t know any commands, and while she walks on a leash with enthusiasm, she tends to zig-zag and pull a bit.
She’s bursting with energy, which can sometimes turn into mischievous puppy behavior, so regular exercise and a consistent training routine are a must. With patience, structure, and positive reinforcement, Keely is going to blossom into a fantastic companion.
Updates
Keely has settled in beautifully and continues to blossom every day! She is learning the house rules quickly and makes steady progress with training. Still a bit mouthy when she’s extra excited, she is improving wonderfully and shows how eager she is to learn.
Once given structure, Keely is an easy and fun companion. She thrives on exercise and engagement—she loves zoomies, playtime, and training sessions. A fenced backyard would be perfect for her to run and play, and she shines in obedience training thanks to her motivation for both toys and treats. She already knows sit, down, and shake and is working on leash skills, waiting politely at doors, maintaining focus, and respecting personal space. She is a quick study with incredible potential!
As a young dog, Keely enjoys testing boundaries, but with consistency she responds beautifully and is always eager to please. She is friendly with all dogs (best with medium-to-large playmates who can keep up with her style), adores people of all ages—including kids—and greets everyone with gentle manners. She isn’t fazed by thunderstorms, fireworks, cars, bikes, or scooters, and she happily soaks up pets and treats from everyone she meets.
Keely has a fun mix of high energy and couch potato vibes—she’ll patrol the neighborhood from the window, follow you around curiously, or curl up for belly rubs. She loves her chew and puzzle toys, stays content in her crate at night or when left alone, and settles well after playtime.
She does have a silly streak—like collecting personal items if she can, digging holes in the yard, or chasing squirrels—but with supervision, enrichment, and ongoing training, she channels her energy into positive outlets. She even had her first swim recently and did great, bravely chasing a toy in the water!
Keely is also becoming very comfortable with handling—ears, paws, tail, and even her mouth as she learns teeth cleaning. She takes treats gently, is patient when touched, and is learning that fast movements just mean playtime (or snacks!).
Keely’s ideal home is with an active person or family who will enjoy keeping her busy, engaged, and loved. She is already a wonderful dog with so much potential, and with continued guidance she’ll only keep getting better!
