Note: Morty is heartworm positive, and CLR will be responsible for his treatment. Please make sure you keep up with HW prevention.

FOSTER UPDATE

Morty is continuing to do amazing. He is just such a sweet boy. He is very calm and well behaved. He listens to his name and comes back when called. He did not seem to know any commands when he came a few days ago, but he is learning quickly and eager to please. He is starting to master “sit” and “wait” at the front door. He really has no bad habits – no table surfing or chewing on things he is not supposed to chew on. He loves chewing on a deer antler or a tennis ball though.  He gets along great with my dog and does not have any guarding behavior. He shares toys and the water bowl without issues.  He occasionally barks at other dogs when on a walk or when he sees them through the window but not in a mean way. (more like – “I want to meet you”).

He has been doing well in the crate at night and for a few hours when left alone. He goes in easily with a treat and settles after a few minutes. He has been sleeping for 8 hours in the crate without issues. During the day he needs to go out very frequently to pee as he drinks a lot due to his medicine (prednisone). At night he is fine as long as you remove the water a few hours prior.

He is an incredible sweetheart and will just be the perfect family dog!

FOSTER UPDATE
We took Morty on playdate with with some other labs he had never met before and he did great! As the pictures and videos show, he enjoyed being part of the pack and making new friends. He was very confident and fit in with the new dogs right away. Morty was not afraid of the pool but we did not encourage him to get in to see if he enjoyed swimming like the other dogs due to his heartworm. Morty believes all dogs are friendly and gets excited to lick their faces and get in their personal space so if around other dogs that do not like that, he might need to be reminded to respect their space. Another fun-filled day for Morty!!

FOSTER UPDATE
Morty has the absolute best temperament.  He is very calm for being 2 years old.  He is so sweet. happy, and affectionate and has great house manners!  He has not chewed or jumped up on anyone or anything.  He seems to be housetrained, and he will go to the door when he needs out.  He is quickly learning the ropes/routine in foster.  He doesn’t seem to know any commands (yet!), but he is a good leash walker.  He is learning to wait at the door to go outside instead of running outside when door opens.  Even when he goes outside without a leash, he does not go anywhere.  He comes right back after he goes potty.  He wants to be part of the family pack.

He loves playing with other dogs and has been great with new introductions.  He has become fast friends with his foster sibling.  We do feel like he would be best in a home with another dog.  He is a good eater and eats at a normal pace.  He loves treats!  He enjoys bones and as the video shows likes to chew on balls but not fetch them at this point. We are not encouraging the fetching as we are restricting his exercise due to heartworm treatment.

Tonight, took him on a small walk on Loveland Bike Trail and he did great meeting people along the way. He was super happy and gentle with the kids who came up and petted this handsome fellow. After socializing, he sat by my side in a patio area of a local restaurant on the trail enjoying the great outdoors.
