1/20/2021 UPDATE: Gretel arrived safely to CLR yesterday. Check back soon for an update!
Hi – I’m Gretel! I’m two years old and come from the same litter as my brother, Hansel. I’m as sweet as they come! I can be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly. Come and meet my me and my brother!
Gretel is a Lab/Shepard mix who comes to CLR from a breeder/hoarder situation. Her former owner went into the hospital, allowing family members to realize they weren’t in a good enough place to care for the many animals on their property. The family reached out to a rescue group in Kentucky that helped facilitate Hansel and Gretel’s transport to Cincinnati.
We don’t believe Gretel was receiving the care she deserved in her previous home. She’s currently pretty skinny, but we know she’ll be a healthy weight in no time now that she’s in our hands! It looks like she may have recently had a litter of puppies as well. We had a chance to take her for a walk with her brother and she did fantastic considering it may have been her first time walking on a leash – you’ll have no problem leash training this smart girl! She was a little anxious (especially with loud noises & passing cars) but has a sweet, calm temperament. It’s clear that she’s very dependent on her brother. While we would love to adopt Gretel and Hansel together, we understand this isn’t always possible. We do feel it would be best for Gretel to join a family with at least one other dog to keep her company.
